Plot Upgrades Guide

Your plot is the factory

In Backflip for Animals!, the plot (base) turns stolen eggs into cash. Upgrades here decide how many animals you can place, how fast the collection machine pays out, and how quickly the treadmill feeds Speed. Players who only chase biomes while ignoring plot throughput stall even with good eggs.

This guide covers upgrade priority for legitimate play. Pair it with How to Make Money for spend order and Treadmill Speed for mobility breakpoints.

Core plot systems

Most sessions revolve around these pads and machines:

  • Hatch — turns eggs into animals
  • Place / animal slots — income generators
  • Collection machine — converts animal output into spendable cash
  • Sell pad — liquidates weak duplicates
  • Fuse pad — combines pets when you understand the risk
  • Treadmill — Speed training and treadmill tier upgrades
  • Trail storage / equip — mobility cosmetics with real return-trip value

Learn where each pad sits during Getting Started so upgrade prompts never surprise you mid-steal return.

Upgrade priority (default order)

Unless a patch clearly changes costs, spend in this sequence:

  1. Treadmill Speed upgrades — steals fail without mobility.
  2. Animal slot expansions — empty income potential is wasted eggs.
  3. Collector throughput — animals that generate faster than you collect need a faster machine.
  4. Quality-of-life plot pads that shorten hatch/place paths if offered.
  5. Trails with measurable Speed or movement value — Trails Tier List.
  6. Cosmetics that do nothing for steals — last.

If you can already clear your current biome consistently, shift budget toward slots and collector. If steals fail, stop expanding the plot and train Speed instead — How to Steal Eggs.

Slots: why count beats rarity early

Early accounts should fill every slot, even with common animals. A rare pet in one slot plus five empty pads often loses to six mediocre earners. Mid game, replace the weakest slot using Animals Tier List while protecting Index uniques — Animal Index.

Buy the next slot when:

  • Every current slot is filled with intentional keepers.
  • You regularly hatch extras that deserve placement.
  • Collector upgrades alone no longer raise spendable cash.

Skip a slot buy when cash would unlock a Speed breakpoint into a new biome with better eggs — Biomes Map.

Collector upgrades

The collection machine is your cash faucet:

  • Upgrade when the meter fills before you finish a short steal loop.
  • Collect before treadmill AFK blocks and after every multi-steal run.
  • Pair collector levels with slot counts so new animals have somewhere to sit.

A maxed collector with two pets is still a weak factory. Balance both.

Treadmill as a plot upgrade

Treat the treadmill as part of the base, not a side minigame. Higher treadmill tiers raise Speed per step, which unlocks safer steals and better eggs, which fund more plot upgrades. The feedback loop is intentional.

Practical habit:

  1. Collect cash.
  2. Buy the next affordable treadmill upgrade if steals feel tight.
  3. Train a short Speed block.
  4. Steal in the highest safe biome.
  5. Hatch/place/collect.
  6. Expand slots/collector when Speed is comfortable.

Details and breakpoints: Treadmill Speed.

Sell and fuse pads as economy tools

Upgrading the plot does not remove the need for clean inventory decisions:

  • Sell weak duplicates when slots are full.
  • Fuse only when you understand mutation risk — Hatch Mutations.
  • Never sell your last Index-unregistered variant.

Script Auto Sell / Auto Upgrade toggles can drain a carefully built plot in seconds. Prefer manual upgrades on main accounts; see Scripts.

Rebirth and the plot

Before a rebirth, collect cash, hatch eggs, and decide what the reset will wipe — How to Rebirth. After rebirth, restore Speed first, then refill slots, then re-buy collector levels if they reset. A multiplier on an empty plot still feels poor.

Mid-game plot goals

By the time Canyon / Arctic are comfortable you want:

  • Enough slots to hold a mixed income team
  • Collector speed that matches your steal cadence
  • Treadmill tier that supports the next biome
  • At least one trail that shortens return trips
  • Habit of claiming Index / daily / playtime / group / spin rewards into plot upgrades

If any pillar is missing, name it and fix that upgrade before pushing Legendary.

Common plot mistakes

Buying cosmetics first. They do not open biomes.

Expanding slots while Speed is too low. You will fill slots with weak early eggs and still fail mid-biome steals.

Ignoring the collector. Animals “earn” nothing you can spend until you collect.

Rebirthing with unhatched eggs and unclaimed Index rewards.

Running two script hubs that double-buy upgrades and bankrupt the plot.

Device notes

On mobile, zoom out enough to tap hatch, place, and collect without misclicking sell. On console, learn the prompt order so upgrade menus do not eat your input during a guardian chase return. PC players can keep the plot camera preset for fast deposit after steals. Full controls: Players / Controls.

Closing priority reminder

Plot upgrades exist to make the steal loop print cash faster. Buy Speed when steals fail, buy slots when eggs have nowhere to go, buy collector when cash piles unread, then polish with trails. Keep that order and your base becomes a factory instead of a decoration yard.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What should I upgrade first on my plot?

Treadmill Speed first if steals fail. Otherwise expand animal slots, then collector throughput, then meaningful trails.

Are plot cosmetics worth buying early?

No. Spend on Speed, slots, and collector before cosmetic pads that do not help steals.

When do I expand slots versus the collector?

Expand slots when you have strong pets waiting. Upgrade collector when the meter fills faster than you can empty it.

Does the treadmill count as a plot upgrade?

Yes in practice. Higher treadmill tiers raise Speed, which feeds better eggs and more upgrade cash.

What should I do before rebirth?

Collect cash, hatch eggs, claim Index and other rewards, then read the rebirth tooltip for what resets.
